Nadav Erlich (born 1992) is an Israeli Composer and Double Bassist based in Basel, Switzerland.
As a composer he moves among roles, genres and mediums and is specialized in collaborations with performers and ensembles of diverse backgrounds, writing for string quartets, experimental big bands as well as new orchestral music.
As a sought-after bassist and collaborator among the rising talents of the newer improvised music and jazz generation, he collaborates extensively with a diverse range of musicians, including Malcolm Braff, Silvan Joray’s Clusters, Miriam Hässig’s Aye!, the quintet Ayna Veer with acclaimed pianist Aydin Esen, Phelan Burgoyne Trio, Oded Geizhals Trio, Jordi Pallarés Project, Francesca Gaza’s Ensemble Kugelförmigkeit, the Basel-based Quintet Katom, Yumi Ito’s Trio, and more.
While actively performing, he pursued his Master’s in Composition in Basel, studying under Guillermo Klein, Michel Roth, Caspar Johannes Walter, and Johannes Menke. His academic focus was on 20th-century classical music, with a particular emphasis on the works of Igor Stravinsky, Béla Bartók, Olivier Messiaen, and György Ligeti. His compositional repertoire spans various ensembles, from intimate chamber groups to expansive big bands and classical wind ensembles.
Nadav Erlich was born in 1992 in Tel-Aviv, Israel, and began playing the double bass at the age of 13, studying at the conservatory of Rosh Pina as well as privately in Tel-Aviv. From 2011 to 2014, he was a member of the Israeli National Army Jazz Band and received a scholarship to study at the Tel Aviv Conservatory.
He is now based in Basel, Switzerland, where he collaborates extensively with musicians from across Europe and tours internationally, performing and composing for various ensembles.
